Christians believe Jesus was born to bring people back into a right relationship with God and to reveal who God is in a human life.
To save from sin
In the New Testament, Jesus’ birth is connected directly to saving people from their sins; for example, the angel tells Joseph that the child will “save his people from their sins,” showing that his mission from birth is rescue and forgiveness. Many Christian writers explain that because humanity is seen as separated from God by sin, Jesus is born so that, through his life, death, and resurrection, people can be forgiven and reconciled to God.
To reveal God’s character
Another major reason given is that Jesus’ birth shows what God is like in a way people can see and understand, since Christians confess Jesus as God’s Son taking on human nature. His compassion, teaching, and suffering are presented as a visible demonstration of God’s love, holiness, and mercy toward humanity.
To bring reconciliation and new life
Many theological explanations say Jesus was born to reconcile humans to God, overcoming the separation and hostility caused by sin. Through this reconciliation, his birth is also linked to the gift of eternal life and the hope of a renewed creation where death and evil are finally defeated.
