The subatomic particles in the order that they were discovered are electron proton neutron positron muon neutrino meson quark boson. This order starts with the electron discovered by J.J. Thomson in 1897 followed by the proton discovered by Ernest Rutherford in 1917 and the neutron discovered by James Chadwick in 1932. The positron was discovered by Carl Anderson in 1932. The muon was discovered in 1936. The neutrino was postulated in 1930 and discovered experimentally in 1956. Mesons were predicted in 1935 and discovered thereafter. Quarks were proposed in the 1960s and observed indirectly later. Bosons such as W and Z were discovered in the 1980s.
