Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on September 19, 2025, due to a freak accident while swimming without wearing a life jacket during a yacht trip. Initially reported as a scuba diving accident, it was later clarified by the Assam Chief Minister that he died after experiencing breathing difficulties in the sea and was found floating. He was immediately given CPR and rushed to Singapore General Hospital but was declared dead in the ICU around 2:30 PM IST. Multiple FIRs have been filed investigating the circumstances around the event, including the organizing team of the festival where he was to perform. His body was flown back to Assam with a three-day state mourning declared in his honor.
