Yes, it is possible to get chickenpox even if you are vaccinated, but the chances and severity are much lower compared to unvaccinated individuals. About 15% to 20% of people who have received one dose of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine may still get chickenpox if exposed, but symptoms tend to be much milder. People who have had two doses of the vaccine have less than a 7% chance of getting chickenpox. When vaccinated people do get chickenpox (called breakthrough chickenpox), they usually have fewer blisters, lower or no fever, and a quicker recovery. The vaccine is highly effective, especially after two doses, with about 98% effectiveness in preventing chickenpox and nearly 100% effective at preventing severe disease.
