The Amazon rainforest is located in South America and spans across nine countries. The majority of it, nearly 60%, is in Brazil. The other countries sharing the Amazon rainforest include Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana (an overseas territory of France). It covers a vast area of about 6.7 million square kilometers (2.7 million square miles) of the Amazon Basin, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Andes Mountains.
