Chrome Hearts was created and founded in 1988 by three individuals: Richard Stark, John Bowman, and Leonard Kamhout. Richard Stark was a premium leather dealer, John Bowman was a leather goods manufacturer, and Leonard Kamhout was a master sterling silver jeweler. They started the brand in a Los Angeles garage, initially producing leather jackets and gear influenced by biker culture. The name "Chrome Hearts" came from the working title of a movie for which they designed costumes. Since 1994, Richard Stark and his wife Laurie Lynn Stark have co-owned the brand.
