The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team from the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area in New York. They were founded in 1959 as one of the original teams of the American Football League (AFL) and joined the National Football League (NFL) after the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. The team plays home games at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, and is known for its strong fanbase from western New York and southern Ontario. The team's name comes from an earlier Buffalo football franchise named after the famous western frontiersman Buffalo Bill Cody.
