Calmoseptine is a moisture barrier ointment that acts as a barrier to protect the skin and helps to heal skin irritations from incontinence, perianal soreness, and dermatitis. It was originally developed for use as a diaper rash ointment for infants, but it can also be used to treat insect bites, eczema, bacterial infections, minor scrapes, and other skin-related issues. The ointment contains several ingredients, including calamine, chlorothymol, glycerin, phenol, sodium bicarbonate, and thymol in a suitable ointment base. The active ingredients in Calmoseptine are menthol (0.44%) and zinc oxide (20.6%) . Zinc oxide is a commonly used ingredient in barrier creams and has a powerful healing capacity that makes it an adequate ingredient in wound cleansers, antifungal powders, and pain relief creams. Methanol is another essential ingredient in a barrier cream that soothes the nerve fibers and improves the circulation of blood, reducing irritation and itching. Calmoseptine does not contain latex or any "food products" such as nut, nut oils, wheat, gluten, fish oils, or dairy derivatives. It is formulated for use on intact or mildly damaged skin and should not be used in deep wounds or on mucous membranes. People with allergies to lanolin or menthol may react to it.
