Cats can eat eggs, but only if they are fully cooked and given in moderation. Eggs are a good source of protein, amino acids (notably taurine), healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals which benefit a cat's overall health. However, raw eggs should never be given to cats due to the risk of bacterial infections like Salmonella and E. coli, and because raw egg whites contain avidin, a protein that can cause a vitamin B7 deficiency by preventing the absorption of biotin. Eggs are not a complete meal for cats and should be fed as occasional treats without salt, seasonings, or the shell. The recommended amount should be limited to about 10% of a cat's daily caloric intake to avoid excessive fat and calorie consumption, which can lead to obesity and gastrointestinal issues.
