Dogs can safely eat the flesh of damsons in small amounts; however, the stones (pits) of damsons are dangerous to dogs. The stones contain compounds that release cyanide when chewed, which is toxic and potentially life-threatening. Additionally, damson pits can cause intestinal blockages. Therefore, it is best to remove the stones entirely before offering any damsons to a dog and keep the fruit out of their reach if the stones are present.
