Product Details

Caphosol is a supersaturated calcium phosphate, electrolyte mouth rinse used to moisten, lubricate, and clean the oral cavity, including the mucosa of the mouth, tongue, and throat. It is intended for use in patients with dry mouth or throat (hyposalivation, xerostomia) . The solution contains dibasic sodium phosphate, monobasic sodium phosphate, calcium chloride, sodium chloride, and purified water. Each dose box contains two 15mL ampules, one blue (Caphosol A) and one clear (Caphosol B), which must be mixed before use. The solution contains sodium 71mg/30mL dose.

Positive Effects

Caphosol has been shown to be effective in preventing and alleviating acute side effects in patients treated with radiotherapy for head and neck cancers. It has also been found to be effective in preventing oral mucositis in pediatric myeloablative hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Negative Effects

No adverse effects are expected if swallowed. However, Caphosol should not be used by individuals on a sodium-restricted diet.
