Product Details

Chlorhexidine gluconate 0.12% oral rinse is a medication used to treat gingivitis, a gum disease that causes red, swollen, and easily bleeding gums. It is a near-neutral solution with a pH range of 5-7. The medication contains 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate as the active ingredient. The following are the other ingredients or materials found in the medication:

  • Water
  • Alcohol (11.6%)
  • Glycerin
  • PEG-40 sorbitan diisostearate
  • Flavor
  • Sodium saccharin
  • FD&C Blue No.1

Positive Effects

Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse provides antimicrobial activity during oral rinsing. It helps to reduce the inflammation (redness) and swelling of gums and to reduce gum bleeding. Chlorhexidine destroys bacteria, thereby preventing gingivitis from occurring.

Negative Effects

Chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse should not be used by persons who are known to be hypersensitive to chlorhexidine gluconate or other formula ingredients. Patients may struggle to stay compliant with chlorhexidine because of the taste, and they cant rinse with water afterward because it renders the chlorhexidine ineffective.
