Tirol (Tyrol) borders the federal state of Salzburg in Austria at the eastern edge of North Tyrol. North Tyrol shares its eastern border with Salzburg, while East Tyrol is separated from North Tyrol by the state of Salzburg and also shares borders with other regions. The border zone is located in the Alpine area, and the phrase "Dort, wo Tirol an Salzburg grenzt" ("There, where Tyrol borders Salzburg") is famously known from the Kärntner Heimatlied, a regional anthem from Carinthia, which poetically describes this border area.
