Halobetasol propionate cream is a medication used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and rash. It contains 0.5 mg of halobetasol propionate in a cream base of cetyl alcohol, diazolidinyl urea, glycerin, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, methylchloroisothiazolinone, (and) methylisothiazolinone, steareth-21, and water. Halobetasol propionate is a synthetic corticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions.

Positive effects of halobetasol propionate cream include relief from the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.

Negative effects of halobetasol propionate cream include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or redness that may occur when first applied to the skin. These effects should disappear in a few days as the body adjusts to the medication. Long-term use of halobetasol propionate cream can lead to the suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which can cause Cushings syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria.

The ingredients in halobetasol propionate cream include cetyl alcohol, diazolidinyl urea, glycerin, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, methylchloroisothiazolinone, (and) methylisothiazolinone, steareth-21, and water. The product does not contain aluminum stearate, beeswax, pentaerythritol cocoate, petrolatum, propylene glycol, sorbitan sesquioleate, or stearyl citrate.
