Milly Pickles was electrocuted on September 29, 2017, in an incident where a high voltage electric current (750 volts) entered her right heel, traveled through her leg, across her pelvis, and exited out of her left big toe. The exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear, and Milly herself has no memory of the event. The electric current caused severe internal burns, affecting 36 percent of her body, mostly internally. Despite the severity, the current did not reach her brain or spine, which is considered a miracle she survived. The electrocution caused such extensive damage that Milly had to have her right leg amputated below the knee, and she also lost her big toe on her other foot. She spent two and a half months in the hospital and underwent 25 surgeries, including debridement, where dead tissue was removed. During the burning process, she endured internal burning for about two weeks before the amputation took place. After recovery, she learned to walk again with a prosthetic leg. The accident happened when she was 20 years old and a university marketing student on a work placement. Before the accident, she was happy and excited about her life direction. Milly now uses her experience to inspire others, raise awareness on disability, and promote positivity and body confidence.
