Ruth Codd lost her right leg due to complications from a serious foot injury she sustained while playing football at the age of 15. The injury never healed properly, leading to chronic pain and nerve damage. She spent about eight years undergoing multiple surgeries and frequently being on crutches. At the age of 23, facing ongoing pain and mobility issues, Ruth made the decision to have her leg amputated below the knee to alleviate the pain and regain control of her life. This was a significant and challenging moment for her, but after the amputation, she experienced relief and was able to move forward with her life using a prosthetic leg. Ruth has since become an advocate for disability awareness and shares her experiences openly.
