The elk hunters, Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko, both 25 years old, were found dead in southern Colorado after being missing for nearly a week. They went missing on September 11, 2025, during an elk hunting trip in the Rio Grande National Forest. Their bodies were discovered about two miles from the Rio de Los Pinos Trailhead on September 18. There were no visible injuries or signs of foul play on their bodies. Authorities and family suspect their deaths could be weather-related. Reports indicate severe storms and cold, wet weather conditions in the area at the time they disappeared, which may have contributed to their deaths. The men were experienced outdoorsmen, but the harsh weather, particularly cold rain turning to snow at high elevation, is considered a major danger to hunters and could have led to hypothermia or similar exposure-related causes. Autopsies were scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, but the circumstances and weather were the leading factors considered by officials and the hunting community.
