To know if you're blocked on iMessage, look for these signs:
- Check your message status in the iMessage conversation. If your message shows "Delivered" or "Read," you are not blocked. If it shows neither, especially on iOS 16.5 or later where "Delivered" always shows, or if the message never gets delivered for a long time, you might be blocked. However, no message status doesn't guarantee a block since this indicator changed in recent iOS updates.
- Look at the color of the message bubble. iMessages to iPhones appear as blue bubbles, but if you're blocked, your messages may send as green (SMS) bubbles instead. This is a strong hint but not definitive since other issues like network problems can cause green bubbles.
- Try calling the person. If the call rings once then goes to voicemail or never rings, it could mean you are blocked.
- Check for a moon icon or "Focus" notification in the chat. If notifications are silenced, you are not blocked, just muted.
- Absence of response combined with these signs over time strengthens the possibility that you're blocked on iMessage.
No official Apple feature reveals a block directly, so these clues together help infer it.
