To transfer data from one iPhone to another, there are three main methods:
- Quick Start: Place the old iPhone near the new one. Both devices need to have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on. Turn on the new iPhone and follow the Quick Start screen prompts on both devices, including scanning an animation on the new device with the old device's camera. Then follow on-screen instructions to transfer data directly from one iPhone to the other.
- iCloud Backup and Restore: First, back up the old iPhone to iCloud. Turn on the new iPhone, join Wi-Fi, and during setup choose to restore from an iCloud backup. Sign in to iCloud, select the backup of the old iPhone, and restore content to the new device.
- iTunes Backup and Restore: Backup the old iPhone to a computer using the latest iTunes. Then connect the new iPhone to the computer and restore it from the backup.
These methods transfer apps, settings, photos, messages, and other data without third-party software. Quick Start is often the fastest for direct device-to-device transfer if both iPhones are running iOS 12.4 or later and are nearby. Make sure both iPhones have enough power and the newest iOS version for the best experience. If the new iPhone is already set up, you may need to erase it and start the setup over to use these transfer options.
