how far can babies see

Babies at birth can see best at a very close range of about 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 centimeters), roughly the distance from a baby’s eyes to a caregiver’s face during feeding. Newborns have poor distance vision and see mostly blurry shapes beyond this range. Their visual acuity at birth is about 20/640, meaning an object an adult can see clearly at 640 feet would need to be only 20 feet away for a newborn to see it clearly. Over the first few months, their vision improves rapidly, and by around 6 months, babies approach adult-like visual acuity with much better distance vision and depth perception developing around 4 months.
