A deep wound usually takes several weeks to a few months to heal, depending on the severity and complexity of the wound, as well as individual health factors. Minor deep wounds may heal in 2 to 4 weeks, while more severe or larger deep wounds can require months or longer to fully heal. The healing process typically occurs in stages: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation (tissue regrowth), and maturation (scar formation and strengthening). Full maturation of the scar can take up to a year or more, during which the new tissue gains strength but may only reach about 80% of the original skin's tensile strength. Factors like infection, poor circulation, diabetes, and nutrition can affect healing time. Proper wound care such as cleaning, keeping the wound moist, and preventing infection can help speed recovery. Stitches or other closure methods can also reduce healing time by keeping the wound edges together to promote faster healing.
