Red P-plate drivers in Western Australia are allowed to have only one passenger in their vehicle at all times from December 1, 2024. There are exemptions where more passengers are allowed: if the additional passengers include an experienced driver who has held a full C-class licence for at least four years, if the passengers are immediate family members, or if the driver requires additional passengers for employment purposes and has a letter from their employer to present to the police. The penalty for breaching these passenger restrictions is a fine of $200 and two demerit points. This restriction and its exemptions are designed to reduce distractions and improve road safety for novice drivers.
