Welles Crowther saved as many as 18 people during the September 11 attacks in the World Trade Center. He is famously known as "The Man in the Red Bandana" for wearing a red bandana that became his trademark while he led multiple groups to safety, carried a wounded woman on his back down 17 flights, administered first aid, and repeatedly went back up to help others until the South Tower collapsed, sacrificing his own life in the process.
