Santa traditionally has nine reindeer pulling his sleigh. The original eight reindeer, as named in the 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas," are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen. Rudolph, the red- nosed reindeer, was added later and is now commonly included as the ninth reindeer
