There are around 10,000 distinct religions in the world. However, over three- quarters of the global population adheres to just four major religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Christianity has about 2.4 billion followers, Islam nearly 2 billion, Hinduism 1.2 billion, and Buddhism about 500 million. Besides these, there are smaller religions like Judaism, folk or traditional religions, and other faiths including Baha’i, Taoism, Jainism, Shintoism, Sikhism, and many others. About 16 percent of the world's population has no religious affiliation.
