You should wash your bedding, especially bed sheets, about once a week as recommended by medical experts for general hygiene. If you have allergies, asthma, sensitive skin, or tend to sweat a lot, it's better to wash them every three to four days. During summer or if you allow pets on the bed, you might also increase washing frequency. If weekly washing isn't possible, having multiple sets to rotate is advised. For other bedding items:
- Pillowcases, duvet covers, and top sheets should be washed at least every two weeks if you wear pajamas or shower before bed, or more frequently if you don't or have allergies.
- Pillows should be washed every three months or as per care labels.
- Duvets generally require washing twice a year, more if heavily used, with attention to care instructions.
Regular washing removes sweat, skin cells, bacteria, dust mites, and allergens, which helps prevent infections, allergies, acne flare-ups, and maintains overall cleanliness and hygiene in your sleep environment.
