To access the Instagram Map, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app and go to your Direct Messages (DM) inbox.
- At the top of the inbox, you will see a "Map" icon next to other status icons such as Notes.
- Tap on the Map icon to open the Instagram Map feature.
- The first time you open it, Instagram will guide you through the setup and ask for permission to share your location.
- You can choose who can see your location: friends you follow back, close friends, selected people, or no one.
- Once set up, you can scroll around the map to see friends' locations, posts tagged with locations, and popular spots.
- You can also search for specific places using the search bar on the map.
Note:
- Your location is not shared automatically; you must opt in to location sharing.
- Location updates occur when you open the app or have it running in the background, not continuously.
- The Instagram Map allows you to bookmark locations and share them with others.
- Location sharing settings can be changed anytime in the app settings.
This feature was launched in the U.S. in August 2025 and is rolling out globally soon.
