Aloe vera gel is a common household plant known for its skin healing properties. It can be used to moisturize skin and help manage skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and sunburn. Aloe vera gel can be applied directly from the plant or bought in bottled form from a health store. Here are some tips on how to apply aloe vera gel on the face:
Moisturizing Your Skin
- Wash your hands before applying aloe vera gel to your face.
- Use your fingertips to gently dab on a thin layer of aloe vera gel.
- After 10 minutes, rinse the gel off with cool water and pat your skin dry. Leaving aloe on your skin for too long can actually have a drying effect.
- Since aloe vera gel has antibacterial and antioxidant properties, wash your face with it twice a day instead of other facial cleansers to prevent acne breakouts.
Face Wash
- After washing your hands, use your fingertips to apply a small amount of the gel to your face.
- Gently cleanse your face with the aloe vera using a circular motion, covering all the skin.
- Rinse with cool water and gently pat dry.
- Follow with aloe vera skin toner.
Face Scrub
- Pour a small amount of brown sugar into the palm of your hand.
- Add aloe vera gel until all the sugar is well-moistened.
- Spread the mixture evenly over your whole face, avoiding the delicate skin directly around your eyes.
- Massage gently for 1 to 2 minutes, then rinse off with cool water and pat your skin dry.
- Use this scrub at least twice a week, or as needed. Discontinue if your skin becomes excessively oily.
Face Mask
- Cut a piece of aloe vera leaf, cut out thorns and rub it from the gel-side on the face. You can also scrape some sap from the leaves of the aloe vera plant using a knife to extract fresh aloe vera gel.
- Blend it or whisk to make it smooth and apply the mix onto the face and neck with the help of fingers before going to bed.
- Leave it overnight and wash your face in the morning.
- To turn dry and dull skin into plump and supple one, prepare a face mask using aloe vera gel, honey, and cucumber. These three ingredients are hydrating agents and when applied on the face, leave your skin soft and glowing.
It is important to apply a small amount of gel to the inside of the wrist to check for a reaction before applying it to the face. Wait 24 hours. If the skin starts to itch, swell, or change, do not use the gel. Dont use aloe vera gel on infected skin as its protective layer can disrupt the healing process and make an infection worse.
