To cut out an easy paper snowflake, you just need a square piece of paper and some scissors.
What you need
- 1 sheet of thin paper (printer paper is perfect).
- Scissors.
Make a square and fold
- If your paper is rectangular, fold one corner diagonally to the opposite edge to make a triangle, then cut off the extra strip so you have a square.
- Fold the square in half diagonally into a big triangle.
- Fold that triangle in half again to make a smaller triangle.
Fold into thirds
- Imagine the triangle divided into three skinny wedges. Fold one side across so it covers about one third.
- Flip the paper over and fold the other side across to match, so you have a narrow “ice-cream cone” shape.
- Cut straight across the top to trim off the uneven points; this gives your snowflake its outer points.
Cut the design
- Along the long folded edges, snip out small triangles, half-circles, or simple shapes; do not cut all the way from one side to the other or it will fall apart.
- You can also carefully trim the tip for a tiny star or hole in the center.
Unfold and display
- Gently unfold all the layers to reveal your snowflake and smooth it flat with your hands.
- Make more using different shapes and cut sizes; even simple cuts look pretty once unfolded.
