how to cut out a snowflake easy

To cut out an easy paper snowflake, you just need a square piece of paper and some scissors.

What you need

  • 1 sheet of thin paper (printer paper is perfect).
  • Scissors.

Make a square and fold

  1. If your paper is rectangular, fold one corner diagonally to the opposite edge to make a triangle, then cut off the extra strip so you have a square.
  1. Fold the square in half diagonally into a big triangle.
  1. Fold that triangle in half again to make a smaller triangle.

Fold into thirds

  1. Imagine the triangle divided into three skinny wedges. Fold one side across so it covers about one third.
  1. Flip the paper over and fold the other side across to match, so you have a narrow “ice-cream cone” shape.
  1. Cut straight across the top to trim off the uneven points; this gives your snowflake its outer points.

Cut the design

  1. Along the long folded edges, snip out small triangles, half-circles, or simple shapes; do not cut all the way from one side to the other or it will fall apart.
  1. You can also carefully trim the tip for a tiny star or hole in the center.

Unfold and display

  1. Gently unfold all the layers to reveal your snowflake and smooth it flat with your hands.
  1. Make more using different shapes and cut sizes; even simple cuts look pretty once unfolded.
