To measure for curtains correctly, follow these steps:

- Measure the curtain drop (length):
- For floor-length curtains, measure from the top of the curtain pole or track to about 1 cm above the floor.
- For windowsill curtains, measure from the top of the pole to 1 cm above the sill.
- For apron curtains, measure from the pole to 10-15 cm below the sill.
- For puddle curtains, measure the length to the floor then add 2-6 cm for a draped effect.
- If measuring pencil pleat curtains, measure from the eye of the curtain ring instead of the pole top.
- Measure the window width:
- Measure the width of the window recess and add 15-20 cm to each side to allow the curtains to sit neatly open.
- If you don't have a pole or track installed, measure the window width and add the extra allowance (15-20 cm or more depending on style).
- Measure the curtain pole or track width between the finials (decorative ends) for the width of the curtain.
- Double this width measurement to ensure a full, gathered look for the curtains.
- Take measurements in several places (left, center, right) and use the shortest length for the drop to avoid curtains that are too long.
This process ensures curtains fit well, look proportional, and hang nicely, enhancing the room's style and function.
