Most Kasa smart plugs reset with the same basic steps, using the single button on the device. Exact LED colors can vary slightly by model, but the timing is the key difference.
Soft reset (keep settings)
A soft reset reboots the plug and puts it back into setup mode without erasing your Wi‑Fi details or schedules.
- Make sure the plug is powered and the LED is on.
- Press and hold the power/reset button for about 5 seconds, until the Wi‑Fi LED starts blinking amber and green (or amber and blue on some models).
Once it stops blinking and reconnects, check the Kasa app to see if the plug is responsive again.
Factory reset (erase everything)
A factory reset wipes all settings so you can set the plug up like new or move it to a new Wi‑Fi network.
- Plug the Kasa smart plug into power.
- Press and hold the same power/reset button for about 10 seconds, until the Wi‑Fi LED blinks amber rapidly.
When the light stops blinking and then goes back into pairing mode (typically a slow alternating blink), the plug is reset and ready to be added again in the Kasa app using “Add a Device.”
If the button/LED looks different
Different Kasa models (HS105, KP115, outdoor plugs, power strips) may place the button on the side or top and use slightly different LED colors.
