Lidocaine Hydrochloride Oral Topical Solution, USP (Viscous) 2% is a local anesthetic agent that is administered topically to produce topical anesthesia of irritated or inflamed mucous membranes. The solution contains 20 mg (2%) of lidocaine hydrochloride USP and the following inactive ingredients: carboxymethylcellulose sodium, flavoring, methylparaben, and purified water.
Positive aspects of lidocaine oral topical solution include its effectiveness in producing topical anesthesia of irritated or inflamed mucous membranes. It is also used to treat sore mouth or throat and reduce gagging during the taking of X-ray pictures and dental impressions.
