Lipstick is a cosmetic product that is applied to the lips to add color and texture. The general ingredients of lipstick include wax, oil, and pigment. Wax is the main ingredient of every lipstick, which gives the lipstick base that is easily applied to the lips. Most commonly used types are beeswax. Oils such as castor oil, mineral oils, lanolin, cocoa powder, jojoba, petrolatum, etc, can be used to add moisture. Pigments or colored powders are dispersed in the lipstick to give it ultimate color and opacity. However, some lipsticks may contain harmful ingredients such as Methylparaben, which is added to lipstick because it is an antifungal and a preservative. Lips are sensitive and easily absorb products through the thin layer of skin that covers them. Lip skin lacks hair and sweat glands, which means that they don’t have the same natural defenses that other types of skin have. Some brands have created beautiful, effective, non-toxic lipsticks using safe ingredients. Some of them use natural preservatives like salt, honey, and clay to protect the products, while others claim to just use half of the acceptable amount of polyparaben.
