Sir Mark Simon Cavendish KBE is a retired Manx professional cyclist widely regarded as one of the greatest road sprinters of all time. Born on May 21, 1985, he specialized in sprinting on the road and had a very successful career on both track and road. He won 35 Tour de France stages, holding the record for the most Tour stage wins ever. He also won the men's road race at the 2011 World Championships and secured points classification victories in all three Grand Tours (Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and Vuelta a España). Cavendish retired from professional cycling in 2024 and was knighted as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) for his services to cycling and charity work. He is celebrated for his numerous victories, including 55 Grand Tour stage wins overall, and his remarkable impact on the sport.
