Pili multigemini is a hair follicle condition where multiple hair shafts emerge from a single hair follicle. It is also known as "compound hairs" and is characterized by the presence of bifurcated or multiple divided hair matrices and papillae. This condition is typically benign and asymptomatic. Pili multigemini is thought to be genetic and tends to run in families. It can occur anywhere on the body where hair grows, but it is most commonly seen in penis owners’ beards and on the scalps of children.
There are no specific ingredients or materials associated with pili multigemini. However, electrolysis has been suggested as a permanent way to remove pili multigemini. Depilatory laser therapy has also been proposed to improve symptomatic pili multigemini.
Positive aspects of pili multigemini include that it is typically harmless and does not cause any harm to the skin or hair. Negative aspects of pili multigemini include that it can be undesirable in certain areas of the body and may cause cosmetic concerns.
