Seán McGirr is the new creative director of Alexander McQueen. He is an Irish designer who studied at Central Saint Martins in London and previously worked as a womenswear designer at Dries Van Noten. He has also worked at Burberry and Uniqlo under Christophe Lemaire. McGirrs MA graduate collection at Central Saint Martins included white denim marred with ballpoint pen scribbles, and he loves working with denim because it can be “reworked and reworked and reworked” . He has a sharp eye and a feel for fabric, and he was among the last students to study under Louise Wilson, the hard-driving professor who mentored and shaped the careers of designers including Christopher Kane, Roksanda Ilincic, and Mary Katrantzou.
