The iconic Air India building at Nariman Point was handed over to the Maharashtra state government. The Maharashtra government acquired the 23-storey building, which was previously owned by Air India Assets Holding Limited, for Rs 1,601 crore with approval from the central government. The building will be used as an extension of the Mantralaya to house various state government offices. This transfer was officially approved in late 2023 and early 2024 after negotiations and formal approvals from both the central and state governments. The building was originally constructed on land leased by the Maharashtra government and built in 1974 as Air India's office headquarters.
