Kajsa Bergqvist is a Swedish former high jumper born on October 12, 1976, in Sollentuna, Stockholm County. She is one of Sweden's most successful athletes in high jump, being the first Swedish woman to clear two meters. Her outdoor personal best is 2.06 meters, which is also the Swedish record, and she holds the world indoor record with a 2.08-meter jump. She has won 3 gold medals at the World Championships, 2 golds at the European Championships, an Olympic bronze medal, and several Swedish national titles. Kajsa's sports career was marked by significant injuries, including a severe Achilles tendon injury in 2004, but she made a remarkable comeback winning the 2005 World Championship gold. After retiring from athletics, Kajsa has worked as a TV presenter, UNICEF ambassador, speaker, sommelier, and advocate for LGBTQ+ issues. She is also known for combining her knowledge of wines with her public speaking engagements. Kajsa was persuaded by her older brother Anders to start athletics at age 10 and eventually focused on high jump with coach Bengt Jönsson and later Yannick Tregaro. She studied advertising at Southern Methodist University in Dallas during the mid-1990s. She is married to Josefin Holmqvist since 2021 and has one child. Kajsa lives in Stockholm and has been active in various social projects post-athletics career.
