A wet dream, also known as a nocturnal emission, is a spontaneous orgasm during sleep that includes ejaculation for a male, or vaginal lubrication or an orgasm for a female. Wet dreams usually happen during dreams that have sexual images, but not always. You may not even remember the dream. They are a normal part of growing up and can happen to both males and females. During ejaculation, semen (the fluid containing sperm) comes out of the penis for males, and for females, they may experience vaginal lubrication or an orgasm. Wet dreams begin during puberty when the body starts making more testosterone, a male hormone. Some guys may feel embarrassed or even guilty about having wet dreams, but they are a normal part of growing up and cannot be stopped from happening.
