Deion Sanders attended Florida State University, where he played football, baseball, and ran track. He started in the Seminoles secondary in his freshman year, played outfield for the baseball team that finished fifth in the nation, and helped lead the track and field team to a conference championship. However, Sanders did not attend classes or take final exams during the fall semester of his senior year at Florida State, yet played in the Sugar Bowl against Auburn. This caused the Florida State Legislature to create the "Deion Sanders rule", whereby a football athlete at any state university could not play in a bowl game if he failed to successfully complete the previous semester. Sanders later earned his degree in business administration from Talladega College.
