New Mexico State University is joining Conference USA in all sports including football starting in 2023. The university has been a part of the Western Athletic Conference since 2005, and it spent the 2013 season as an independent and from 2014 to 2017 as a football-only member of the Sun Belt Conference. However, it began playing as an independent again with the 2018 football season. As of September 2023, the New Mexico State Aggies football team has a 0-1 record in Conference USA.
