The World Trade Center (WTC) was a large commercial complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Its primary function was to serve as a massive office complex where businesses from around the world rented space to conduct business. It housed more than 430 companies involved in various commercial activities, including finance and trade. The WTC contained approximately 13.4 million square feet of office space and was envisioned as a center for domestic and international business, particularly related to global trade. The complex also included amenities like restaurants, observation decks, art studios, and hosted markets and events. The two main buildings, known as the Twin Towers, symbolized economic power and globalization and were among the tallest buildings globally until their destruction in the 2001 terrorist attacks.
