The dinosaur with 1,000 teeth is a common misconception. However, the dinosaur with the most teeth is Nigersaurus taqueti, a long-necked sauropod that lived during the middle Cretaceous period, about 115 to 105 million years ago. Nigersaurus had an unusual skull containing as many as 500 slender teeth, which were arranged in dental batteries in both the upper and lower jaws. The dental batteries comprised a total of more than 500 active and replacement teeth, with 68 columns in the upper jaws and 60 columns in the lower jaws. The teeth erupted in unison, not each column individually, and were replaced once every 14 days, which is the highest tooth replacement rate of any known dinosaur.
