DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is the molecule that carries genetic information needed for the development, functioning, and reproduction of all known living organisms and many viruses. DNA is made of two strands that coil into a double helix structure and contains instructions encoded in sequences of four bases: adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine.
