To follow Jesus means to respond to His call to repent and believe the gospel. It means to make Him the Boss and to filter every decision and dream through His Word with the goal of glorifying Him in everything. Here are some important considerations to keep in mind when following Jesus:
- Be willing to obey and submit to His will by faith, even when it exceeds understanding.
- Be prepared to endure hardship and confront sin.
- Recognize Jesus as more than a great teacher, but as the promised Messiah, Lord, and the Son of God.
- Declare Jesus as Lord and be baptized in His name.
- Obey His teachings and follow His example.
- Strive to be like Him and make Him everything to us.
- Filter every decision and dream through His Word with the goal of glorifying Him in everything.
- Trustfully obey and submit to His will by faith.
- Learn to live life as His apprentice.
- Be intentionally with Him through practices like prayer, worship, and reading the Bible.
- Pursue a life of holiness and keep His commandments.
To truly follow Christ means to follow His example and imitate His life. When Jesus called His first disciples, He called them to leave everything and follow Him. When He calls us to follow Him, nothing should matter as much as our relationship with Him.
