The treasurer in a student council is responsible for managing the councils budget and ensuring that all funds are used responsibly and in accordance with student council votes and regulations. They work with the council to prepare the annual budget, process and record all financial transactions on behalf of the council, and prepare monthly and annual financial reports. The treasurer is also responsible for fundraising events and chairs budget committee meetings if there is one. They must have basic computer skills such as Excel, Quicken or similar for preparing financial statements and budget, strong organizational skills, and good at keeping files. The treasurer is typically third in line as the chairperson of the entire student council below the president and vice-president, although this can vary from school to school.
