Various aquatic animals eat algae, including fish, snails, crabs, sea urchins, and some turtles. Some of the known types of fish to eat algae are blennies, tangs, plecostomus, kuhli loach, otocinclus, bristlenose pleco, siamese algae eater, and Florida flagfish. Siamese algae eaters are not the same as Chinese algae eaters, which are much more aggressive and can get twice as big. Grass carp are also known to eat algae and are useful in controlling specific types of algae in ponds.
