In the movie Brokeback Mountain, Jack Twist dies. In a strained telephone conversation, Jacks wife Lureen tells Ennis, Jacks lover, that Jack died in an accident while changing a tire. However, Ennis suspects that Jack was murdered by men who discovered his secret life. Ennis imagines Jack being beaten to death with a tire iron, which is his fear manifesting itself. In the movie, there is a scene where Jack hits on a man in a bar, and the man and his friends look at Jack with pure hatred, foreshadowing a possible hate crime. Jacks father also tells Ennis that Jack was planning to come back to the home ranch, not with Ennis but with "some ranch neighbor a his from down in Texas". Therefore, it is probable that Jack was killed in the process of attempting to satisfy his desires by getting together with men.
