According to multiple sources, Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, has been ordered to vacate her hideaway office in the Capitol building by the new interim House Speaker, Patrick McHenry, who is a Republican. The request came just hours after McHenry was appointed acting Speaker, following the ousting of Kevin McCarthy from the role on Tuesday. Pelosi has criticized the move, saying in a statement that she had been asked to leave immediately and "this eviction is a sharp departure from tradition." Pelosi maintains her regular office in the Cannon House office building. While it is rare for members of Congress who are not in leadership roles to have offices in the Capitol building, Pelosi was able to keep one as she is a former House Speaker herself. Pelosi was not present for Tuesday’s vote, as she was in California to mourn the loss of her dear friend Dianne Feinstein, who died last week at age 90. Pelosi added in her statement that the “eviction is a sharp departure from tradition,” saying: “As Speaker, I gave former Speaker Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished.”
