Rascal Flatts, a country band consisting of singer Gary LeVox, guitarist Joe Don Rooney, and bassist Jay DeMarcus, broke up in 2020 after more than 20 years together. According to Jay DeMarcus, the bands split was not part of the plan, and they should have taken a break at some point to care for their mental health and hit the reset button. By the time they were preparing for their farewell tour, they had reached the point of exhaustion and wanted to start focusing on other things. In October 2021, Gary LeVox revealed that Rascal Flatts had broken up, admitting that he was unhappy with how the band ended and that Joe Don Rooney had quit the group. However, DeMarcus said that all three members had decided to quit the group at one point or another during Rascal Flatts career, and LeVox himself had quit "three or four times over the last 15 years". Despite the split, DeMarcus hopes to reunite with Rooney and LeVox in the future. Currently, LeVox is working on solo music, while DeMarcus has been active in the music industry with his Red Street Records.
